Jennifer West, a contracted biologist for the Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, geotags elderberry shrubs along the Tenmile Slough Levee (TS30L) in Stockton, California, February 12, 2024. The district is relocating the shrubs in accordance with Federal law prior to the start of construction on the levee, projected to start next year. Blue elderberry is the sole habitat for the Valley Elderberry Longhorn Beetle, a federally listed threatened species, and is also valued for its berries (edible after cooking).
