Kandahar airport, Afghanistan, satellite image. This international airport was heavily damaged during fierce fighting between US and Taliban troops during the US invasion of Afghanistan. It was finally taken by US marines on 14 December 2001. The airport lies 20 kilometres outside of Kandahar city in the south east of Afghanistan. Kandahar is Afghanistan's second largest city. Taken by the Ikonos satellite on 10 October 2001.
