. American engineer and railroad journal . ch are not arranged for cuttingclose to a shoulder, being generally furnished. These holders, asin fact is the whole head, are made of steel. The clamp is soconstructed that in addition to holding the chaser rigidly also The Swartwout Automatic Safety Water Gauge, manufacturedby the Ohio Blower Co., eliminates, to a large degree, the dan-gers resulting from broken gauge glasses. Quick-closing auto-matic valves are arranged to cut off the flow of water andsteam the instant the glass breaks. In each of the two gauge bodies there is an automatic valveheld away from its seat while in use by a spring, shown at F inthe sectional view. In case of breakage this valve is closedquickly by the steam pressure in the boiler. The valve is alsocontrolled by the hand wheel, so that both valve and valve seatare easily removed for cleaning without disturbing the gauge atthe boiler connections and without removing the packing of thegauge glass. As shown in the sectional view, the screw E holds the parts.
