Facial plastic surgery

Illustration of the second stage of surgery carried out during the First World War on soldiers whose faces had been ripped of by shelling. A flap of skin is taken from the top of the skull, on both sides and is folded down onto the chin then grafted onto the deep part of the reconstituted chin. The part that has not been grafted is cut (dotted lines) and regrafted to the top of the skull to reconstitute the scalp.
