Mary Bartonwas the wife of John Bower and themother of Dr. Chas. Bower, long aneminent physician at Newton Hamil-ton, also of Rev. Sabra Bar-ton, the other daughter of John Bar-ton, Sr., the pioneer, was the wife ofJacob Smelker formerly of Shir-leysburg, and this Jacob Smelkerwas the father of Thomas A. Smel-ker, long a resident of Germany Val-ley. Thomas A. Smelker was thefather of H. S. Smelker of Mount Un-ion, C. B. Smelker of Beaumont, Tex.,T. N. Smelker and Mrs. Julia Creeof Kauffman, Tex., Mrs. Hannah Mus-ser of Homestead and Mary, Mrs. Ovelman of Altoona. Thomas Barton was married to MissGertrude Lovell Morgan, Quoatieoke,Quebec. Canada. Clement Bartonmarried Miss Jessie Myers. Sibbiemarried Dr. C. E, Bmsrick and re-sides at Grantville, Pa. The present Barton sons of Shir-leysburg. Clement and Bower C,Thomas of Huntingdon, and Mrs. Emerick of Grantville, Pa., are thechildren of the late Thomas NelsonBarton, long a prominent resident ofShirleysburg. Mr. Barton died April1, 1906.
