Young woman of the port of le Havre. She wears a bonnet that rises to a point, decorated with lace only to the ears. A silk ribbon is wrapped around it. In the background can be seen the port's fortifications, drawbridge, and the masts and sails of a tall ship. Hand-colored fashion plate illustration by Benoit Pecheux engraved by Gatine from Louis-Marie Lante's "Costumes des femmes du Pays de Caux," 1827/1885. With their tall Alsation lace hats, the women of Caux and Normandy were famous for the elegance and style.
