Waterlilies grow as dense stands in shallow water, firmly anchored by hefty, bulb-like bases. Ring-neck ducks feed heavily on lilies; their crops have been found to contain 500–1,000 white waterlily seeds at one time. These are one of the many native plants that are at risk when invasive species like the water hyacinth are left unmanaged.
