The Vulcan Hotel in the old mining town of St Bathans in Central Otago, New Zealand. The hotel/pub dates from 1882 and is supposed to be haunted by a young woman, thought to have been a prostitute known as The Rose and who was strangled to death in the hotel. Room 1 in the hotel is said to be haunted by her ghost. The hotel, built of sun dried mud bricks, is a category 1 historic place of New Zealkand.
