Church of St Augustine, Alston, Cumbria


Front Street Alston, Cumbria. Alston is a small market town high in a relatively remote part of the Northern Pennines. The Angel Inn pub on the far left of the photograph is a Grade II listed building dated 1611. Church Gaytes Cottage in the centre is dated 1681 and is a Grade II building including an original mullioned window with 2 leaded lights. The Church of St Augustine is also Grade II listed and dates from mid 19th century replacing an earlier building.
