Avro Vulcan XH558 powered by four Rolls-Royce Olympus Engines in flight
Avro Vulcan XH558 “The Spirit of Great Britain” flying past at the Duxford air show. The Avro Vulcan was one of the three “V Bombers”, Vulcan, Victor and Valiant. The three bombers were to fill the roll of “nuclear bomber”, “maritime reconnaissance” and “air-to-air refuelling”. The “Avro Vulcan” did fly in anger, dropping conventional bombs on the runway at “Port Stanley” on Falklands in 1982 during our war with Argentina.
