Hercules Skinning the Nemean Lion, ca. 1675–1700, French, probably Paris, Bronze, Overall: H. 18 1/8 x W. 17 x D. 8 7/8 in. (curve of tail to Hercules extended toe (46 x x cm), Sculpture-Bronze, Attributed to François Lespingola (French, 1644–1705), Hercules subdued the Nemean lion by order of his nemesis King Eurystheus, who ordered all twelve of his famous Labors. He is often shown wrestling with it but seldom if ever skinning it after slaying it
