Image EKN79H shows the other side of this building. A house turned into an artwork: "Welcome to Redfern", at 36 Caroline Street, Redfern, Sydney, Australia, is an artwork designed by well-known Aboriginal artist Reko Rennie with the assistance of a number of local artists. Rennie is of the Kamiaroi people of northern New South Wales, but is associated with urban pop art, being influenced by the likes of Andy Warhol. This work, supported by the City of Sydney Council, pays tribute to Redfern's Aboriginal history, activism, community and culture. The area where the house stands is known as 'The Block', a once-notorious area of public housing occupied mainly by Aboriginal familiies but mostly neglected. The area is currently undergoing urban rejuvenation. Digital alteration: some pornographic graffiti has been removed from the small white door, to ensure this image is suitable for school textbook use.
