Albert Einstein, German- Swiss-US physicist (1879-1955). Born in Ulm, Germany, he died in Princeton, USA. In 1901, whilst employed at the Patent Office in Berne, Switzerland, he began independent work on physics problems. In 1905 he published papers on the photoelectric effect (which won him the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics) and most significantly, the special theory of relativity, which includes his famous mass-energy equation. In 1915 an expanded version, the General Theory of Relativity, was published. In 1933, he emigrated to the USA to work on a theory to unify gravity & electromagnetism. Photo probably taken in 1922.
