Itis necessary, however, that the air shouldnot be absolutely dry and that the powderis kept constantly moving. This opera-tion may be carried out in the dark-room,where the air is generally in a good con-dition for the purpose. As soon as thedevelopment of any part is complete, thepowder may be brushed away, andother parts may, if desired, be allowed todevelop further. In this way the artisticeffects can be greatly heightened. Combination Pictures. The background from one picture andthe figure from another may be combined. It will be found on removal fromthe frame that an image is alreadyformed, but this will be where the lighthas acted. As soon as the plate hasbecome quite cold, development may beexpected to commence, and then to pro-ceed fairly rapidly. As it advances, agentle stream of air should be blown withthe mouth across the plate—not so brisklyas to disturb the powder, or so slowly asto cause the moisture of the breath tocondense upon it.
