Egyptian Christian inscriptions. 19th-century reproduction of Greek Christian inscriptions from ancient documents and monuments. At upper left is a fragment of 2nd-century papyrus with Greek writing on it. At upper right are three columns showing changes in the Greek alphabet used to date the fragments. At bottom are three examples of inscriptions of uncertain dates from Christian tombs in Kalabsha, Nubia (southern Egypt and northern Sudan). This page was for an 1818 paper by British physicist and Egyptologist Thomas Young (1773-1829). Published in Volume 19 (1821) of 'Archaeologia', the journal of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
