They cleaned up well July 25, but, with other flowers, hung fire the remainder of last week. There still are too many gladioli and prices are low. Valley goes slowlj', also lilies of all sorts. Gypsophila, double bach- elor's buttons and Chinese larkspurs meet with a fair sale. Gardenias are few, and for cattleyas the demand con- tinues slight. As yet shipping trade to the fashionable shore and mountain re- sorts is much below that of other years. Important Sale of Peonies. E. J. Shaylor, of Auburndale, the well-known local peony specialist, called up the writer July 20 and informed him that he had sold his collection of peo- nies of over 150 varieties to T. C. Thur- low's Sons Co., of West Newbury, Mass. Mr. Shaylor started peony grow- ing about ten years ago and got to- gether what was one of the choicest collections in America. His exhibits at the Boston shows were always note- worthy, and I am glad to say that he still is likely to exhibit occasionally, as he retained his seedlings, some thou- sands in number, and a plant of each named variety. He will not engage, however, in the sale of peonies again before 1917, but will give much care to his seedlings, some of which h
