Jean Jacques Henner, French painter of historic scenes and portraits, had been a pupil of Gabriel Guèrin in Strasbourg, then Paris. A pupil at the Ecole des beaux-arts and of Drolling, as well as in Rome. He was awarded numerous medals and prizes (amongst others the prize of Rome in 1858).
