It consists of a hollow disk or cylinder, 12 inches diameter and 3 inches wide on the rim, with acircular opening in the centre of 6 inches diameter. This cylinder is inclosed on both sides, excepting thecentral opening, and is entirely open all round the rim. The disk is placed vertically on a shaft passingthrough its centre, and on the end of this shaft is fixed a pulley for driving it. In order to raise thewater, the disk is placed in the bottom of a vertical trunk, as shown in fig.
