Temple of Diana at Ephesus. 18th-century diagram of a presumed layout of the Temple of Diana at Ephesus in present-day Turkey. Also known as the Temple of Artemis, this site was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This diagram shows the scale of the 6th-century BC temple, 115 by 46 metres with one hundred large columns (13 metres high) surrounding the central cella (inner chamber). This diagram accompanied a paper by British antiquarian Joseph Windham (1739-1810) on descriptions of this temple in Pliny's Natural History. Published in Volume 6 (1782) of 'Archaeologia', the journal of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
