In a comparative keeping test of the four varieties here considered, which was made in an ordinary cellar, the Champion did not be- gin to get soft and yellow until the middle of January, while the other varieties were at that time showing signs of failing. The Champion is an American quince of recent origin. Rea, or Rea's Mammoth (Fig. 4).—Tree small, not over two- thirds the size of the Orange at the same age. Fruit large to very large, mostly abruptly pear-form, rich orange in color, the surface very smooth, flesh of excellent quality.
