One byone the rivals of Siddartha tried to ride the impatienthorse, but each one was thrown and scarcely escapedalive. Then the Prince stepped forward, and takingthe horse by the forelock, spoke a gentle word intoits quivering ear, and stroked its neck and sides; andso great a love and understanding did he have for thehorse, that the horse responded and soon stood quitecalm and subdued and allowed the Prince to mounthim and ride quietly away.
