Personally, I am not at all romantic, butwhen for the first time I came upon the oldweather-beaten building, with its now crumb-ling plaster-walls, where Rudolph Virchowerected the frame-work of cellular pathologyfor all scientific medicine to build upon, Istood for a full hour with my hat in my hand,my mind struggling to grasp the secret of hisachievements. And when finally I came backto earth I had no desire to go through thenew Institute across the way, but reservedthat visit for another day and went slowlyhomeward.
