Light micrograph of a blood vessel with medial calcific sclerosis, also known as Monckeberg sclerosis. The calcium in the vessel wall is the dark purple C-shaped structure. Surrounding the circular blood vessel is smooth muscle and connective tissue (in this case in the wall of a uterus). Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 40x when printed at 10 cm.
