At Blacksburg in connec-tion with the Virginia Polytechnic Institute there is main-tained what is known as the State Experiment Station. Thisstation is used for the purpose of making investigations intothe various kinds of seeds, fertilizers, soils, and methods ofcultivation, in order that farmers may receive reliable informa-. In addition to thisimportant station, experiment stations are also conductedunder government control at Appomattox, Axton, BowlingGreen, Chatham, Louisa, Rustsberg, Saxe, Norfolk, andStaunton. The Virginia Agriculturaland Polytechnic Institute located at Blacksburg offers to theyoung men of Virginia the opportunity to secure a four-yearcollege course in agriculture. It also conducts in the winterseason a brief course of six weeks for practical farmers. ThisInstitute is supported by the government. Teachers are alsosent out from this Institute to conduct what are known asmovable schools of agriculture, which
