Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service (FS) Conservation Education Specialist Tamberly Conway, listens for the audience to finish the second half of Woodsy Owl's original message of, "Give a hoot; don't pollute!" and presenting Woodsy’s current motto "Lend a hand - care for the land!" encourages everyone to reduce, reuse, recycle and rot (compost), during the 4th USA Science & Engineering Festival at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, in Washington , on Sunday, April 17, 2016. The presentation includes Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Services Technical and Media Support Coordinator Victor Villegas and USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Institute of Youth, Family, and Community Deputy Director Dr. Muquarrab Qureshi. Children and parents from and in the audience participated in the physical activity segment that encouraged all to get moving like bee pollinators. USDA NIFA and University partners provided information and activities about agricultural science, technology, engineering, and food nutrition and safety. Multiple USDA agencies including National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), Forest Service (FS), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS), Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) are participating in this event. The USA Science & Engineering Festival is a national grassroots effort to advance STEM education and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.
