A demonstration in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester, uk, on December 21, 2019, to protest about the Citizenship law which was passed recently by India's Parliament. This changed India's 1955 Citizenship Act, providing a path to Indian citizenship for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian religious minorities escaping persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. This was the first time religion had been used as a criterion for citizenship under Indian law. Muslims argue that this discriminates against them. In protests in India 23 people have died and 4,000 arrested.
