PORTLAND, OBE. The Market. Business still is moving in a rush- ing way. The prevailing pleasant weather is bringing the chrysanthe- mums into bloom almost too rapidly to be handled successfully in the lower grades. A heavy frost would be wel- comed to put a quietus on outdoor stock. Boses are coming in rapidly. Maids are especially plentiful, but there is little stock that goes to waste. Carnations are increasing in quantity and improving in quality. Valley and orchids are scarce; in fact, the local market is almost depleted. Ferns and palms are in good demand. The Boston type proves one of the best sellers. Various Notes. Hallowe'en business was slow, hardly justifying the making of special win- dow displays. C. T. Kipp, of Spokane, spent a day here en route home from a business trip to California, where he is interested in some valuable land. R. Keil has purchased an Overland car, which facilitates delivery. H. K. Spalding has opened a store at 353 Washington street, in the base- ment, with a counter on the street. Julius Doesche received a carload of shrubs from Belgium this week. Thomas Luke has been promoting amateur boxing bouts recently, which has been a financial success to the club, but his cherished white hope went down in defeat, which annoyed Luke consid- erably. David Forbes left this week for Menlo Park, Cal., to make an exhibit in the show there for Martin & Forbes Co. Among the exhibits will be a showing of the Gorgeous carnation,
