More than once at Prato, and often elsewhere,people have wanted to buy my sketches: if I had notrequired them for my own use I might have sold agood many. I do not think my patrons intendedirivine more than four or five francs a sketch, but aquick worker, who could cover his three or fourFortuny panels a day, might pay his expenses. Itoften happens that people who are doing well inLondon or Paris are paying a visit to their nativevillage, and like to take back something to remindthem of it in the winter.
