Leyburn, Yorkshire Dales, UK 3rd July, 2014. Thousands of cyclists have been in the Yorkshire Dales travelling the route of the Grand Depart. The roads, and fields assigned to parking and camping are now beginning to fill up in preparation for the event on Saturday. The Tour de France is the largest annual sporting event in the world. It is the first time Le Tour has visited the north of England having previously only made visits to the south coast and the capital.

The Tour de France route is busy with hundreds of cyclists intent on covering the route before the race proper on Saturday. Some estimates put the figure at 30,000 in total with up to 1000 expected this week. Tourist chiefs report endless streams of cyclists along the course, before the route and road closures come into force at 4am on the 5th.
