'The Siege of Mooltan' (Multan), India, 1849 (c1857). The Houdah of Mulraj's elephant struck by a cannon ball. The Siege of Multan was precipitated by a revolt in the city after the East India Company imposed a ruler on the inhabitants, beginning the Second Anglo-Sikh War. The siege lasted from 19 April 1848 until 22 January 1849, when the last of the defenders surrendered to the British.
