Nearly all pessaries for retro-displacements of the body of the uterusare constructed on the same principle, that of the double lever, the shortstrongly curved arm of the lever being behind the cervix in the posteriorvaginal pouch, the long, mildly curved arm in front of the cervix alongthe anterior vaginal wall (see Figs. 227 and 266). The fulcrum of these pes-saries is at the deepest point of the posterior vaginal wall, where the canalcurves upward toward the posterior pouch. It is not a fixed fulcrum, but changes with the position of the patient. The lever principle on.
