Everywhere it was declared that the traffic was the heaviest ever seen and crowds thronged the flower stores, while many bought from the depart- ment stores. Up to Saturday morning every indication was that there would be a plentiful supply of everything, ex- cept, perhaps, a few novelties. But within a few hours after the opening Saturday there was a rush made upon all the growers and wholesalers for more, but without success. Violets were more plentiful than ever before, but in many places they were all sold out before noon. One shop re- ports having sold over 50,000 during the evening. Bulbous and other growing plants were plentiful and in great de- mand. A big demand for American Beauty and Eichmond roses made a shortage in these, but there were plenty of the Killarneys and My Maryland. Orchids and gardenias were also in de- mand. Prices ruled at about the same as last year on all flowers. An extraordinarily large supply of Easter and calla lilies was soon ex- hausted, many of the churches having gone extensively into decorations this year. In many cases where it was found impossible t
