Transcription factor complex, illustration

Illustration of the yeast transcription factor upstream activating factor (UAF) in complex with transcription factor TATA-box-binding protein (TBP) and a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) promoter. Transcription factors are proteins that bind to a specific sequence of DNA and control the transcription (transfer) of genetic information from DNA to RNA (ribonucleic acid). UAF controls RNA polymerase I transcription of the 35S pre-ribosomal RNA (rRNA), the first step of ribosome biogenesis.
