Battlefield of the Battle of Legnica (1241) near the village of Legnickie Pole in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. The village of Legnickie Pole (The field of Legnica) was the site of the decisive Battle of Legnica on 9 April 1241. In the battle, Mongols of the Golden Horde defeated a Polish-German army under Duke Henry II the Pious of Silesia. The battle marked the westernmost expansion of the Mongols into Central Europe. Church of St Hedwig (Jadwiga) in honour of the Battle of Legnica was built by Czech Baroque architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer.
