New counties reporting screw-worm were Bailey, Brazos, Burleson, Callahan, Clay, Dallas, Dawson, El Paso, Falls, Glasscock, Howard, Jones, Leon, Madison, McLennan, Palo Pinto, Smith, Taylor and Washington Counties, TEXAS, and Dewey County, OKLAHOMA. During the period May 11-17, 21,413,200 sterile flies were released over an area of 54,160 square miles at the rate of 300-400 flies per square mile. A total of 1,204 screw-worm cases were reported during the period. New counties reporting screw-worm were Erath, Fisher, Freestone, Garza, Henderson, Hill, Hood, Johnson, Kent, Limestone, Matagorda, Parker, Stephens, Walker, Young and Hunt Counties, TEXAS; Curry and Grant Counties, NEW MEXICO; and West Carroll Parish, LOUISIANA. The Mission production facilities for producing sterile screw-worm flies are now expected to be completed about June 16, 1962.
