The Harrismith-Kroonstad line takesleave of the main line at the Orange Free StateJunction, one mile north of Ladysmith. In thevicinity are many notable positions held by bothBritish and Boers during the siege, this being about midway between theopposing forces. After clearing the Junction the line passes through an opencountry westward to the stopping places Smiths Crossing and Walkers Hoek,the latter point being ten miles distant.
