Last year we tested the Robbins in the same field with two other planters, and at first the other machines seemed to have the preference, on account of a little lighter draft; but after the potatoes began to show through the ground its popularity bounded forth like a dream, and the other planters were loaded up and hauled back. You could tell to the very row where the Robbins began. It was set to 15 inches, and not one hill in 500 was missing, while the others showed ragged all through, skipping as many as 10 to 15 feet at a time. Mr. Charles Holt, market gardener, bought this machine, and says it is an impossibility to plant, even by hand, as accu- rately as can be done with the Robbins, and says dozens of planters will be sold in his immediate neighborhood, as potato growers never antici- pated such results as can be accomplished with it, there being no question about the seed being properly put in. After the placing of the seed in the hopper, it is then carried by means of an elevator wheel and deposited m the corresponding pockets of the revolving feed wheel. We have found it necessary, in order to suit the different sized cuttings of the seed, to . _ , furnish three sizes of elevator wheels—one for small cut seed, one for medium, and one tor large. Ihe knowing of which wheel to-use ior the elevation of the different sized cuttings must be left to the judgment of the operator. When too much seed is deposited by the fcevator wheel, use a smaller pocketed wheel; when not enough, use a larger pocketed wheel. In actual operation from 60 to 75 per
