Lewis; Sixth, Colonel Elisha L. of these had risen, by successive promotions, from theline. Each had shown bravery and capacity in subordinatecommands, and each had the respect and confidence of theofficers and men under him. The later months of the winter of lS().1-3 were passedby the brigade in the camp near White Oak Church. Therewas abundance of cold weather with occasional snow stormsup to the end of March and even into April, and at timesconsiderable sickness prevailed, as shown by the long lists ofVermont soldiers in the regiment
