Thisgastric catarrh is a reflex effect of peritoneal irritation. Itis more severe after prolonged operations; and more markedafter operations in which the peritoneum is opened by thebelly wall, than in those in which it is opened by the vagina;why, it is hard to say. It is a frequent accompaniment ofpelvic peritonitis. The after-fate of ligatures.—As a rule the tissues onthe proximal side of the ligatured pedicle swell up, meet those.
