Anarchists, banner and City Hall at protest against London Mayoral Elections on result night, May 2008
Around a hundred anarchists from the London area came to the riverside walk adjoining London's City Hall to protest at the results of the London Mayoral Election on 2 May. They opposed all of the candidates, calling the main contenders 'The Crook (Ken Livingstone) the Toff (Boris Johnson) the Fascist and the Cop. Among them were members of Fitwatch which tries to frustrate the photographic harassment carried out by police Forward Intelligence Teams by holding a large banner in front of the police lenses. Previously the FIT teams had been busily photographing journalists waiting to cover the event as part of their standard campaign against the media. Other banners were for Anti-fa and Class War. After a few minutes of demonstration police tried to clear the area by pushing the demonstrators using men from the TSG, and penned some of them in a ring of police a short distance away. At least one arrest was made of a man who refused to move. It was not clear what offence if any the protest was causing or why it should have been moved.
