It appears in the annals of the race as amighty phenomenon, but not an inexplica-ble one. There is a general agree-ment, however, that the terrible war was clearlythe fruit of a conspiracy against the nationalityof the Republic, and an attempt, in defiance ofthe laws of Divine Equity, to establish an Empireupon a basis of injustice and a denial of the dearestrights of man.
