RICHARDS, Henry Phinehas, a member of the High Council of the SaltLake Stake, is a son of Phinehas Rich-ards and Wealthy Dewey, and was bornat Richmond, Berkshire county, Massa-chusetts, Nov. 30, 1831. He was bap-tized by his father when about eightyears old. In the fall of 1843 he :rated with his fathers family to Nau-voo. 111., and although quite young, wasordained an Elder and identified withthe Elders quorum. He received hisendowments in the Nauvoo Temple,Feb. 7, 1846, just before the exodus of. the Saints, and left Nauvoo with hisparents bound for the Rocky MountainsMay 19, 1S46. He sojourned for a shorttime at Winter Quarters, and com-menced the journey across the plainsJuly 3, 1848; he drove an ox-team forSister Moss (whose husband was thenon a mission) and had the charge oftwo teams all the way, standing guardevery third night half of the night; ar-rived in the Great Salt Lake valley , feeling truly thankful that he hadreached the place of his destination, asthe labors, toils and fatigues of thejourney seemed more than could havbbeen endured much longer b^ one ofhis years and not of robust health. Fora number of years he contributed to the support of his parents; he also servedas messenger in the House of Repre-sentatives of the Provisional Govern-ment of the State of Deseret during itstwo first sessions
