Detail of Jiwa ship in Phi Phi, Thailand. Jiwa is a 23m traditional wooden Phinisi, the kind of ship which was used years ago as merchants traded throughout the archipelago. The Phinisi is also the traditional “pirate ship” of the Bugis people, which is where the term "Bogey Man" came from. Jiwa was built in 2008 in south Sulawesi by the notorious Bugis people one of the last living traditional boat building cultures on the planet. She is custom designed for comfortable day sailing tours.
