The wheel pump was installed in 1929 over a bore hole to supply Goldhanger with water during a drought that year. The structure is Grade II listed by English Heritage. In the background ids the Chequers Inn which dates from around the 16th Centuary and is also Grade II listed. Also in view is the 15 Century tower of St Peters church which is Grade I listed.
