Ajax Defending the Greek Ships Against the Trojans, c1792. By John Flaxman (1755-1826). Ajax is a Greek mythological hero, the son of King Telamon and Periboea, and the half-brother of Teucer. He plays an important role in Homer's Iliad and in the Epic Cycle, a series of epic poems about the Trojan War. The Iliad is an ancient Greek epic poem in dactylic hexameter, traditionally attributed to Homer.
