The Great Roundhouse (rear L) & the Moel y Gaer house at Butser Ancient Farm, Hampshire, UK. Archaeological reconstructions based on excavations at Longbridge Deverel Cowdown, Wiltshire, & a C4th/3rdBC site in Wales. The Great House is some 15m (50ft) in diameter built on a double ring of posts; it was built in 1992 & dismantled in 2006. This photo was taken in July 2003 after the roof had been re-thatched in autumn 2002. The Moel y Gaer house is 9m (30ft) in diameter built on the double ring principle, its wattle & daub wall has been coated with earth pigments.
