He attended the schools of his town and entered the University in1838, remaining nearly three years. He was engaged in mercantileInisiness in Pomfret, Vt.,21841 until1849, when he located in Holyoke,Mass., where he resided until hisdeath; engaged in the hardware busi-ness, Holyoke, 1849-74; inorganizing the Holyoke Sa^^ngs Bankin and was its treasurer, 1850-67. He was a Republican in politicsand held many offices; was town clerkand treasurer of Holyoke, was a fine scholar; a man of in-tegrity and held the respect of thecitizens of his city.
