A Tropical Migratory Locust (Locusta migratoria migratorioides) on a beach on Ascension Island in the South Atlantic
This species is likely to have reached Ascension Island from south western or west Africa during disturbed weather conditions and could well have been on the island since prehistoric times. At only 35 to 50 mm in length the form on Ascension is a distinctly smaller size than the ancestral African form.
