For the mothers, or other relative, who bringtheir small charges to the boat, classes have been organizedin which instruction and demonstration are given regardingthe proper diet and sanitary measures necessary in the careof small children. In all of its work the Boston FloatingHospital co-operates freely with other charities. Its workis timely and much needed. 64 >z X. LONG ISLAND HOSPITAL THE Long Island Hospital is a part of the InfirmaryDepartment of the City of Boston. The Hospital wasorganized along modern lines in 1895. At that time aregular medical and surgical staff were appointed. The Hos-pital is located on Long Island in Boston Harbor. The islandis two miles long and about one-fourth mile wide. Practicallyall of the island is given over to the Hospital buildings andgrounds. The Hospital is designed to care for chronic cases , acute cases develop among the patients and otherpersons on the island. Thus there are both acute and chroniccases in the wards at all times. There is a great opportunityoffered for the study of chronic disease and disease in its mostdistressing forms.
