Memorial to Sherpa mountaineer, Babu Chiri Sherpa, at Thukla (Dughla) Pass, along the Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek, Nepal
Located at 4,800m, Thukla Pass lies on the Everest Base Camp route and leads to the tiny hamlet of Lobuche where trekkers spend a night before their final approach to the base camp. The top of the pass has over 100+ memorials of climbers who have lost their lives while attempting to climb Mt Everest. Babu Chiri Sherpa (1965-2001) summitted Mount Everest 10 times and held two world records: 21 hours on the summit of Everest without auxiliary oxygen and made the fastest ascent of Everest in 16 hours and 56 minutes.
